three-day_safari

The Journey

This active tour takes us through the best of the Western Cape, both inland through the fascinating karoo and along the rugged coast. Over three active days we get acquainted with the Big Five (lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros) and other African wildlife as well as crocodile and the white shark, to name but a few.

From the comfort of a custom-built Land Rover we view the wildlife in the game reserve while learning from our knowledgeable game rangers. Two game drives and accommodation in luxurious accommodation with wildlife moving about outside ensure we get a solid dose of that safari feeling.

If roaring hippopotamus won't keep you awake during the night, the Nile crocodiles and the white sharks will definitely catch your attention and keep you alert during the day. Both these species are best viewed from the safety of a cage under the watchful eyes of the pros who will ensure your safety.

Itinerary / Description

Day 1: Cape Town to Oudtshoorn
Early morning departure from Cape Town and a scenic drive through the arid Klein Karoo, arriving in Oudtshoorn (also known as the ostrich capital of the world) in the early afternoon. Here we are greeted by a welcome drink at the game reserve before embarking on an afternoon game drive. After dinner we retreat to the specially designed luxury tents by the lake, and endeavour to get some sleep while the hippos call until sunrise.

Day 2: Game Drive - Big five- Crocodile Cage Diving
After an early morning game drive we say goodbye to the animals and have breakfast. Then off to the cage dive in the crocodile pond. As we eventually manage to tear ourselves away from these toothy reptiles we carry on through beautiful mountain passes, and by the evening we arrive in Gans Bay -often called the white shark capital of the world, for good reasons.

Day 3: Cage diving with white sharks
At the shark center we enjoy a breakfast whilst getting a talk about white sharks and boat safety. Life jackets and foul-weather gear is provided, as well as snacks and refreshments on the vessel that take us to the area between Dyer Island and Geyser Rock, better known as Shark Alley. This is where the great hunter of the ocean is cruising in search for its prey, the Cape fur seal. The experienced staff then try to lure the lurking shadows below to approach our boat for a closer look. A strong metal shark cage is then lowered into the water alongside the boat. For the really adventurous person who wishes to get close up and personal with the great white. Wetsuits and masks are provided. No diving experience is required for this as the cage remains tethered to the boat on the surface at all times.Once back on the mainland we debrief at the shark center over a light lunch before we head back towards Cape Town, driving along the scenic coast.
